The Challenge

Remote locations face an increasing number of challenges when addressing security risks, including distance from a main location, community, and first responders; lack of traditional power sources or network connections; and an overall scarcity of physical or video security to protect their crucial perimeter areas.

These factors pose additional security risks in more isolated locations, including construction sites, distribution centers, and chemical plants—and their remoteness can make them targets for criminal activity like theft, loitering, and other security risks.

A remotely located large-scale commercial facility with several on-site parking lots experienced frequent car thefts over recent months. The facility had traditional cameras in their parking lots; however, these cameras did little to deter criminals from frequently stealing vehicles and failed to proactively address the situation. The facility turned to Everon for a new, cost-effective video surveillance system to help combat theft.

The Solution

Our team of experts at Everon provided remote, solar-powered video surveillance units that did not require traditional power sources or network connections. Cost-effective and mobile, the video surveillance units acted as a physically imposing deterrent against crime due to their obvious presence.

Immediate benefits to the customer included:

  • Reliable, high-quality video feeds that monitor remote sites with the same processing capability as a traditional camera
  • 24/7/365 video feed that captures events in real-time
  • Rapid installation to quickly fill gaps in perimeter security where a human guard or traditional power source/connection may not be present
  • Cloud-based software with livestream feature and the capability to simultaneously archive video footage without the need for costly IT infrastructure
  • Cost-effective solution to ensure the security and safety of facilities while maintaining their bottom line
  • Accessible via any web browser for full control of the video surveillance system on the go
  • Self-troubleshooting functions that reduce the frequency of on-site technician visits

The Results

Before the installation of the remote video surveillance units, the customer experienced an average of one vehicle-related crime incident per month. After the installation of the unit, the customer reported only one close call in which an unknown vehicle circled the parking lot and then promptly left when the driver noticed the unit. Since this incident, no criminal or suspicious activity has been reported—demonstrating how the presence of a mobile unit can act as a deterrent to crime.

The large-scale commercial facility that approached Everon for this project expressed satisfaction and interest in purchasing more remote video surveillance units in the future, saying, “During our demo period, we had zero security incidents in the parking lot the unit was monitoring. We witnessed unauthorized vehicles case the lot, see the unit, and drive to another lot. We are eager to have these units installed in all our parking lots as soon as possible.”

Ultimately, these solar-powered mobile video surveillance units proved to be environmentally friendly, rapidly deployable, reliable, and an overall best-in-class solution for this customer, when compared to traditional video surveillance cameras. The use cases are wide-ranging and can be a valuable security program component for remote locations and facilities, perimeter parking lots, construction sites, campus parking structures, and more.

Everon’s video surveillance units are more than just passive deterrents. Additional features include:

  • Two-way communications that enable an operator to dial into the unit and speak directly to people or potential perpetrators.
  • Ability to play pre-recorded messages that can welcome customers, warn trespassers to leave the premises, or remind workers and employees of safety precautions in a hazardous area.
